Maine has always been a state known for its textiles. The first woolen mill in America was built in Saco, Maine in 1793. It wasn't until 1837 that another woolen mill was built, this time in the small town of Mayall's Mill. The mill was originally built by Samuel Mayall and his family.
The Mayall's Mill was one of the first businesses in the area and helped to spur growth in the small town. The mill provided employment for many residents and was a vital part of the community. The mill also helped to attract other businesses to the area, such as a sawmill and a gristmill.
